The Universe

The Universal Spirit: Understanding Our Connection to the Universe

We are all animated by the spirit of the universe. The universe itself is a living being, an organism. Everything in the universe is part of this entire whole, including other beings. In fact, there is nothing outside of this universal being. At different levels, we can see different beings manifest, different organisms, which make up other beings and organisms at various scales.

For instance, if we take a drop of water, that water exists as its own self—a drop of water. That is its scale. If we zoom out, we can see that the drop of water composes an ocean, which has its own being too. Conversely, if we zoom in, we view the drop of water as composed of smaller molecules, each with its own existence. This pattern continues infinitely in both directions, scaling up and down. At every level, we observe organic beings that are part of larger organisms, all animated by the same universal spirit. This is the reality of existence. Every individual organism is powered by the universal being; therefore, knowledge of this universal being brings empowerment.

This entire universe makes up one interconnected whole, a perfect unity. No part of this infinite organism can be removed, and there is nothing outside of the whole, including the concept of nothingness. For example, if we draw a circle on a piece of paper and say that this circle represents the entire universe, this representation is inaccurate because the universe comprises not only the circle but also the paper on which it is drawn. In short, the universe has no limit; it is infinite.

Because the universe is infinite, it has no beginning and no end. It is eternal. It has always been here and always will be. The various shapes and forms come and go, with change being a constant part of its nature. However, the infinite and eternal universe is always present, and all manifested shapes eventually return to the infinite and eternal. This is the cycle of what we call life and death. The state of the infinite and eternal is bliss, complete and total perfection. What we call suffering or pain is relative to a specific scale and always temporary, belonging to a particular form. The ability to experience pain is an important part of existing on a particular scale and taking a certain shape. Therefore, we do not have to be consumed by pain and suffering; these are temporary states. The underlying state of the universe is bliss. Knowing intimately our connection to the universal spirit allows us to live blissfully in the present, which is, in effect, living in reality.

Materialism dominates modern thought about the nature of the universe. It is not just atheists who are materialists; the Judeo-Christian-Islamic worldview is also materialist, and in fact, it is the source of materialist belief. Materialism is not synonymous with atheism. The materialist mindset stems from the faulty belief that the divine is something separate or outside of the physical universe, thus creating a purely material universe. The atheist then argues that there is no proof of an outside divine personality and only accepts the material realm, or that which can be empirically proven, as reality. However, the Judeo-Christian-Islamic worldview, with its dualism, creates the illusion of a solely material universe in the first place. This mistaken worldview separates the believer from reality.

By understanding and embracing the organic nature of the universe, we can move beyond the limitations imposed by materialism. We can recognize that the divine is not separate from the physical universe but is inherently a part of it. This holistic understanding reconnects us with the universal spirit, allowing us to live more fully and authentically. It helps us see that we are not isolated entities but integral parts of a vast, interconnected whole. This realization brings a sense of peace and purpose, guiding us to live in harmony with the universe and experience the underlying bliss that pervades all existence.
